The parish of Cairnie is nowadays reckoned as belonging to Aberdeenshire, and the main article about it will therefore be found among the GENUKI Aberdeenshire pages. However, before the major re-alignment of parish and county boundaries which came into effect on 1st May 1891, the parish belonged in part to Banffshire. The remaining articles on this page give details.
Until 1st May 1891, the parish of Cairnie lay partly in Aberdeenshire and partly in Banffshire. This inconsistency was resolved by transferring the Banffshire portion to the parish of Keith. This means that, either side of the critical date, people living in the places concerned will disappear from the records of Cairnie, and will re-surface in the records for Keith. Records likely to be affected will include Registration of Births, Deaths and Marriages, Census, and Poor Law records.
Places affected by the change are: Ardimannoch, Greenwood, Little Pitlurg, Mains of Pitlurg, Marypark, North Whitely, Newtack, Whitehillock, Woodhead and Woodlands.
